Teaching Consulting - a Field Report

      Consulting is a knowledge driven business. Therefore leading edge knowledge is the most important competitive issue between national and international consulting companies.

      Special abilities are needed to find the answers to a global economy and a business environment which are changing with increasing speed. The demand is for experts who are able to use innovative methods and techniques to solve the complex challenges in international management: executives with consulting skills as well as external and internal consultants with a broad range of competences, problem-solving strategies and a sound knowledge of the industries. Knowledge cannot get acquired by learning by doing on projects like in former times. Today the client expects not only that the consultant know more and better than he does, he even expects a clear statement regarding the “return on consulting”.

      The article presents a relevant approach from German experience in teaching Management Consulting.
